You Need to Stand Out To Make It in the Hospitality Game
Hospitality’s a pretty crowded industry. You have so many competitors, that you’re never going to make it by following the standard business model. You need to get creative, you need to capture the zeitgeist and stand out from your competitors. Use the novelty to attract customers to your doors, then keep them there with excellent customer service.
I’m speaking from personal experience here. When I and my business partner, Jeremy San, decided to get into the hospitality game, we knew that we had to stand out. Hence, we turned to the gastro bar craze, recognising that consumers are hungry for this type of hospitality venture, and thus, the Escape Gastro Bar was born.
Welcome to the World’s ‘Weirdest Hotel.’
Let me give you a somewhat extreme example. Welcome to the world’s weirdest hotel – The Propeller Island City Lodge. Based in Berlin, and founded by German artist Lars Stroschen, it’s also an art installation, and is proving a hit with travellers from across the globe.
Why? The Propeller Island City Lodge is no ordinary hotel. We mentioned that it was also an art installation right? Every single one of its 33 rooms is unique, and has its own special theme. And these themes- they’re downright weird. Notably, they include an upside down room, a padded cell room, a prison room, and it only gets weirder from there.
Why Are People Going There?
So why are people going there; padded cells aren’t exactly comfortable! People are going there for the same reason it caught my interest – they’re curious. We all love a good side-show, and the quite frankly bizarre rooms at the Lodge are sure to keep fascinated lodgers occupied for hours, just by looking at them!
Then there’s the niche market to think about. There’s always a customer who actually wants to stay in prison, or has a thing for upside down furniture. The Propeller has certainly come to dominate these markets!
Htet Tayza Suggests You Get Creative!
Now Htet Tayza readers, I’m not suggesting you get this weird; it’s kind of hard to pull off effectively. I am suggesting though, that you get creative. Find a way to stand out from the crowd, and you’ll have consumers flocking to your hospitality business in droves, just to see what all the fuss is about.
