My name is Htet Tayza and I’m a young hospitality enthusiast from Myanmar. I was born in Yangon, Myanmar twenty-two years ago. I have a keen interest in business, cuisine, lifestyle and philanthropy.
I traveled to neighbouring Singapore to receive my education at the reputable Tanglin Trust School. In 2011 I decided to travel further afield to enroll at the world’s top rated hotel school – Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL). My efforts at the school to obtain a Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management and a five month internship at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong have inspired me to branch out into the field of hospitality and this led to me and my business partner Jeremy opened our first establishment: The Escape Gastro Bar in Yangon. Dedicated to providing top notch fusion cuisine and designer cocktails, Escape has only fuelled my desire to bring first rate hospitality to Myanmar.
I was raised with the idea that anything is possible, as long as you put the effort in. This has fostered in me a strong work ethic, a desire to succeed and a sense of entrepreneurial spirit that has guided me on my path to carve out my place in the hospitality industry. I hope to use my knowledge and experience in the industry to bring more jobs and a better quality of life to people in Myanmar.
My devotion to my homeland and my desire to make it a better place were both inspired by my father. A philanthropist and entrepreneur, my father is the Chairman of the Htoo Group, which has investments in hotels, airlines, banking and insurance, logistics, construction, mining, and agriculture. Its charitable arm, the Htoo Foundation has shaped my outlook on life and growing up my family had the chance, through the foundation, to engage in a host of charitable efforts. This included building schools and libraries, promoting environmental campaigns and providing aid in various parts of the nation. I hope to continue my fathers and the foundations good work through both entrepreneurial and philanthropic means.
Away from the professional side of my life, I have a keen interest in learning about the world of hospitality and lifestyle; about restaurants, bars and tourism. My devotion to my home nation sees me constantly seeking to learn more about Myanmar and its current affairs and people. I’m a fitness enthusiast as well and have developed a keen interest in cuisine and the international stock market.
Currently, I work as a Managing Director at Asia Green Development Bank Limited. Alongside this, I am the Co-Founder of Wisper, an app developed in order for people to briefly share their lives with their friends.
